b. 2002, portland oregon
claire is a craft-based artist living in brooklyn. all of her work-- textile, drawing, shoemaking, and painting alike-- relies on slow processes of hand-making. her pieces have been featured in group and solo exhibitions across the country, most recently in her solo honors thesis exhibition at brown university, which was titled "dinner for shadow." her art has been awarded with numerous grants for its innovative use of materials, which include wool, wax, pastel, and found objects.
claire's most recent collection uses deliberate, tedious processes of making in an investigation of quick fixes, instant gratification, and miracles. she draws no sharp line between the real and the unreal in her visual references, which range from fountains of youth, to "miracle" supplements, to the quick dopamine hit that comes from seeing a cute puppy. through this focus, her work investigates whether some experiences of pleasure are, in fact, more "real" than others.
